Katraj to Purandar Trek
Katraj to Purandar (K2P) range trek
Katraj to Purandar (K2P) range trek was completed on Nov 28, 2015 with Santosh Kulkarni.
We started from Katraj old tunnel at 6.30 am and reached Narayanpur (base village of Purandar) by 5 pm. Missed the route initially which costed us 2 hours.
Met many people in between, mostly farmers and villagers; it was good to interact with them. Most of the route goes through farms and fields. Its 7-8 hours walk if you maintain good pace.
Definitely its simple range trek with couple of small hills climbs.
Points to ponder:
1. Once you cross three mobile phone towers which are close to the tunnel, you will see a hill, which is not to be climbed; take traverse from right side and you will see temple on top of hill towards E-S direction.
You need to take same direction and reach that Shiv temple. We took left and reached Kalubai temple. We missed almost 2 hours there as there was a valley to be crossed.
2. you will meet many cow-grazers on the route whom you can check for the route. Most of the folks were surprised to hear that we are going to Purandar by walk.
3. Getting water is not difficult as you will be crossing through multiple villages, carry food though as restaurants are not there in between.
4. We found knee length grass everywhere; as routes are not clearly marked. Wear full pants to avoid irritating 'kusal' (dry grass).
5. Try to reach Narayanpur by 4 pm as Purandar fort gets closed by 5.30 pm. It takes 1 hour to reach top from the base village
6. You can save time and distance if you start the trek from Gogalwadi. This route will take you directly to shiv temple which is near Daregaon.
7. In between you can find a tar road and you get chance to take a lift to save some time :)
Happy trekking!
